Common Solar System Faults We Fix

Solar systems in Harare face specific challenges: heat stress on inverters, dust and debris on panels, power surges when ZESA reconnects after load shedding, and battery degradation from deep cycling. Here are the most common faults we diagnose and repair.

Inverter Faults

Error codes, overload shutdowns, MPPT failures, fan malfunctions, firmware crashes. Deye, Growatt, Sunsynk, and Voltronic inverters.

Battery Degradation

Reduced backup time, cells not balancing, swollen casings, high internal resistance. LiFePO4, gel, and lead-acid batteries.

Wiring Failures

Loose DC connections, burnt terminals, incorrect wire gauges, failed junction boxes. Common after poorly done original installations.

Panel Damage

Cracked glass, hotspot burn marks, junction box failures, snail trails, delamination. Physical damage and manufacturing defects.

Connection Corrosion

Oxidised MC4 connectors, corroded battery terminals, degraded earth bonds. Harare's seasonal humidity accelerates corrosion.

Monitoring Errors

WiFi dongle failures, incorrect production readings, app disconnections, data logger malfunctions. We restore visibility into your system performance.

The Solar Harare Repair Process

Every repair follows four steps. We do not touch anything until you have a clear diagnosis and a written quote.

1

Diagnosis

A technician visits your property, inspects the system, runs diagnostic checks on the inverter, tests battery health, and checks all connections. You get a clear explanation of what is wrong.

2

Safety Check

Before any repair begins, we check the entire system for safety issues: earthing, isolation switches, fuse ratings, and cable integrity. If the original installation has safety problems, we flag them.

3

Repair or Replace

Once you approve the repair quote, we carry out the work using genuine or manufacturer-approved parts. If a component is beyond repair, we recommend a replacement and quote it separately.

4

Test & Recommission

The repaired system is tested under load. We verify output levels, switching behaviour during simulated load shedding, and battery charge cycles. You get a short report showing the before-and-after performance.

Signs Your Solar System Needs a Repair

Solar systems do not always fail dramatically. Often, performance degrades gradually and homeowners do not notice until load shedding exposes the problem. Watch for these warning signs.

Your inverter is showing error codes or flashing red/amber alarm lights
Batteries are lasting noticeably less time during load shedding than they used to
The system does not switch to battery automatically when ZESA cuts out
Your energy production has dropped even though the weather has not changed
You hear unusual clicking, buzzing, or humming from the inverter
The inverter display is blank or frozen
Your monitoring app shows zero production during sunny hours
Battery bank is hot to the touch or shows physical swelling

When to Repair vs When to Replace

Not every fault needs a new component. A loose connection costs nothing to tighten. A blown fuse costs a few dollars. But when an inverter board fails on a unit that is already seven years old and out of warranty, a repair may cost more than replacing with a newer, more efficient model. Craig will give you an honest recommendation.

For batteries, the decision is simpler. Lead-acid batteries that are three to four years old and showing reduced capacity have reached end-of-life. No repair will restore them. LiFePO4 batteries last much longer, typically eight to ten years, and individual cell issues can sometimes be resolved without replacing the entire bank.

Solar Harare will never push a replacement when a repair makes more sense. We also will not waste your money repairing something that will fail again in six months. You get the facts and you decide.

Equipment We Diagnose and Repair

Solar Harare repairs systems regardless of who installed them. If another company installed your system and is no longer responding, we can help.

Inverters

Deye, Growatt, Sunsynk, Voltronic, Mecer, Kodak, and other brands available in Zimbabwe. We handle both single-phase and three-phase inverter diagnostics.

Batteries

LiFePO4 (Pylontech, Freedom Won, Hubble), gel batteries, and lead-acid batteries. Individual cell testing, BMS diagnostics, and full bank assessments.

Panels

All major panel brands. Physical damage assessment, junction box repairs, bypass diode testing, and individual panel performance measurement.

Charge Controllers & Accessories

MPPT and PWM charge controllers, monitoring dongles, isolator switches, surge protectors, and earthing systems.

What Our Clients Say

“My inverter was showing fault code F23 and the previous installer stopped answering calls. Solar Harare came out within two days, diagnosed a faulty MPPT board, and had a replacement fitted within the week. System has been running perfectly since.”

Michael H.

Chisipite · Growatt 5kVA inverter repair

“The lead-acid batteries in our system were only lasting two hours during load shedding after three years. Craig tested each battery, confirmed they were end-of-life, and quoted a LiFePO4 upgrade. The new batteries run the house for over eight hours now.”

Grace M.

Vainona · Battery bank replacement

Frequently Asked Questions

Common signs include: your inverter displaying error codes or alarm lights, batteries not holding charge as long as they used to, the system not switching to battery during load shedding, a noticeable drop in energy production from your panels, or unusual sounds from the inverter (buzzing, clicking). If your system is not performing the way it did when first installed, something has changed and it is worth having it checked.
